Covid: turning lockdown into an opportunity for online learning ...

The challenging circumstances of the global Covid pandemic led to the closure of all our in-person language courses, affecting both our corporate and individual clients. However, we didn’t falter – after all, we had been in the language education field for almost 30 years. During the lockdown, we developed a unique teaching method for our key corporate clients. This method combines visual perception of written text with listening to spoken language, resulting in outstanding outcomes.

We’re expanding! Study abroad and summer language stays

Since 2008, we have been offering study abroad programmes and summer language stays, but 2015 marked a groundbreaking achievement. From that year onwards, we have provided year-round support to 2,000 Czech families, offering continuous online tutoring for children and students, soft skills training and, of course, our traditional summer language stays. That year, for the first time, our consolidated financial statements exceeded an annual turnover of CZK 70 million, solely in the segment of high-quality services. And we were justifiably proud of this accomplishment!

Educational Institution of the Year in 2013

Winning the title of Educational Institution of the Year was like winning an Oscar, but in education. The award, given by the Czech Association of Adult Education Institutions, evaluates over 40 criteria, including education quality, customer focus, teacher development and ethical conduct.

Lenka is one of the most successful Czech women in business!

Lenka achieved 3rd place in the Czech Businesswomen Awards (in the Medium-Sized Business category), recognising the most successful Czech women in business. That same year, our project department was honoured with the National Career Counselling Award for the “FIT FOR FLEXI” project on balancing family and work flexibly.

Our company received an award in the prestigious Czech Patron 2011 competition, held by the Czech Chamber of Commerce.

Triple quality certification

In 2010, we received the Czech Translation Certification ČSN EN 15038:2006. We later pursued international certifications, achieving ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 17100:2015.

Founding member of the Czech Association of Language Schools

We have always prioritised quality over quantity. In 2003, we initiated the founding of the Czech Association of Language Schools. Together with our colleagues, we strive to enhance language education in the Czech Republic, especially by supporting the professional development of its members and teachers.

Since 1998, we’ve been providing courses, translations and interpreting services in over 60 languages. Alongside English, German, French, Spanish, Japanese and Chinese, we also offer rare and exotic languages. Our quality and range have made us a market leader in the Czech Republic, and we proudly maintain this position!

The founding of Channel Crossings

Lenka Pavilková returned from America not only with a university degree but also with her first professional experience in the private sector. In 1993, she founded Channel Crossings, one of the first private language schools in the Czech Republic.

Lenka: education, languages, travel ...

Lenka earned her degree in English Studies from California State University San Marcos in 1992. The following year, she founded Channel Crossings, a language and education agency. With over 30 years of experience in language education, she is a true pioneer in the field.

Why Channel Crossings?

After the Velvet Revolution, the English Channel became a sort of gateway to the stars. Everyone wanted to visit the UK, especially London. At the time, there was no tunnel, and the only way to reach the islands was by ferry across the channel. A ‘channel crossing’ was almost symbolic of new opportunities
